Jon Otis

I was born Darrell Jon Otis on June 12th, 1953 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've worked as a professional musician -- percussionist and singer -- since the age of 15.

Performing with my father's group, The Johnny Otis Show, in the early 70’s, and with other well known groups from the Bay Area, laid a solid foundation for everything I've done since.

Over the years I’ve played with a wide-ranging variety of artists, groups, music, dance and theater projects. Styles have ranged from rhythm & blues to funk, jazz, classical, rock, pop, African, Brazilian, Latin, New Age and world music.

I'm currently working together with my brother Shuggie on a show dealing with my father's life (after all, a man who produced Elvis Presley, discovered and produced Etta James, Big Mama Thornton, and Jackie Wilson, among many others, has some interesting stories to tell, not to mention that they're backed up by dynamite music!).
